You are kidding me, right?

So let me start by saying, my daughter is six years old. This is very important to remember.
At her 8u softball game early this morning, I was reminded just how people must not realize what they are saying out loud during the game around other parents.  8u means all girls must be eight years old and under as of January 1.
I also want to add my daughter is very short for her age (hence the name lil-bit on the back of her team shirt).
So that makes her basically 2 heads shorter, if not more than most of the  team members and the youngest on the team (I think). Plus I'm sure there may be some already 9 year olds playing this Spring or close to it. All important to remember.
So here's my rant:
These children are 6,7,8 years old - No they all do not know what they are doing at all times during the game that's why they are playing softball to LEARN the game to LEARN the fundamentals of playing the game. Sure some of them know to throw to first base, maybe all know to throw it to first base, maybe they all know when the force is at two. But I can assure you not all the kids out of all of 11 know everything about the game they are: six, seven, and eight years old possibly nine they are still babies, they are still LEARNING!!!!
This is not high school ball where a scout is coming from a college  nor is it college ball or the Olympics. This is our babies born just a few short years ago and are playing softball for fun and again to learn when and what to do. When to run, when not to run, how to stay at second when the play is at first, and not run or how to make the play at second and then where the next play will be. If it's a foul or if it's not. Or what to do if it's hit right on the ground in front of you.
Here's an idea.... Maybe it's the coaches place to tell the kids what to do.
And speaking of coaches I THANK them  ALL very much for devoting their time to teach our children to play! It's a complete volunteer situation and they are so kind to give up their precious time with their own families to help teach our children...and I Appreciate it very much!
In fact this is the 1st of 4 years I haven't helped coach the kids. Because I coach adult Coed and Women the last few years.
But the next time a parent wants to look at me and tell me something about the way we do or do not do things...Well lets just say I hope they choose to stay quiet, just as I was to them this morning.
I will only listen to the coaches in any sport, because after what I've seen and heard this short season so far especially compared to other years -  frankly the parents don't know what they're doing either.
Another coach and myself were talking after the game and it's all about the fundamentals at this stage, at this early time in their young little lives, it's about teaching them what to do in a position, be it batting or on the field.
As I worked on the small garden of weeds behind our home, I became more infuriated over what was said to me by the minute. And this is my outlet.
Let the kids play and have fun and LEARN. I can promise you my little girl who is almost 7 now learns at a very, very rapid pace-  she is a very smart girl!
At the end of the day -  it's the coach-pitcher's place or Coach or heck even the coach from the other team (at this age) to tell her to run! Even her dad thought it was a foul ball.
Get REAL!
Rant over-  thanks for listening.

Read Cross America and Our Child

This week is Read Across America week in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. And I couldn't be more proud of our daughter who took the first-grade challenge to help HER class see which would read the most books.
I'm thrilled to say she read 43 books during an already busy week and keeping up her Gymnastics classes. She actually read some at school too and started a couple others at home we didn't write down.
She loves to read and has such a desire to go to school. She doesn't even like being out for summer and I'm very glad of that because we toured yesterday what will be her new school at the beginning of her 2nd grade school year. Thankfully she is so excited to go, she asked if she could start today. Her words: "Maybe you shouldn't have told me that, because now I'm too excited to sleep. Can I go tomorrow?"
I'm just so proud of her and wanted to take a moment to share her accomplishment and her fun school-wear for Dr. Seuss dress up days all week. #fwsProudMommy #IThankGodFoeHer

Wacky Wednesday!

Silly Socks Day... But can't find my photo of it.

Want to see a movie that doesn't disappoint?

Wow, I guess when a movie stays on your mind for days, it can certainly go down in the books as a great one.  I had the extraordinaire pleasure of going to the movies, not once last week but twice in just 8 days. Basically unheard of for me, as I don't go to the theater often at all.  But the first one I'll tell you about in another post, the one I'm speaking of at the moment is "The Finest Hours". My husband and I planned a Valentine night out too late so no reservations for us, but we had a nice dinner locally at a Mexican restaurant we frequent quite often without any delays at all. Since we got lucky on the time spent eating we decided to go to the 7:10 movie Saturday night. I had at least taken time to look up what was playing and watched the trailer for this movie I hadn't even heard of. But it looked like something both of us would enjoy so off we go.

Well I had no clue it was, for starters - a true story - which did it for me from the beginning.
The main character is based on the real life happenings of Bernie Webber in 1952 who was in the coast guard at that time. 74 years ago TODAY the actual story took place in real life which spawned this movie (based on a true story). Too bad our date didn't end up today instead of Saturday. There is something nostalgic when visiting something on it's birthdate so to speak.

"Spoiler Alert" -
Without knowing the details of the family - I came home wishing Mr. Webber could have lived to see this movie.

"End of SA" -
I have no clue why anyone would even wait this long to make it, but I'm glad Disney Films did. And as usual Disney does not disappoint on this one.  I actually felt myself sinking in the seat while watching it, covering my face partially with my coat, crying and smiling and crying again. I became so interested in it, I've looked up and read articles online etc.. just to get up to speed on the real-life information and I hope you will too.

And might I say, "Hunk" (lead role) played by Chris Pine - did not disappoint with his slow to the punch, sad and honorable disposition.

Let me know what you thought about the movie in the comments below. I would love to hear your view.

As far as a movie, I personally have to suggest this one to all my friends (men & women).

Check out the trailer below:

Winter Blues? Not me!

Okay, so Winter is still upon us and I for one LOVE IT. Yes, I love the sun to shine on my skin and throw that necessary Vitamin D into my very desperate body, but to see the snow falling and cover the ground like a beautiful white blanket is just so peaceful! I can hardly take my eyes off of it when the snow is falling and so enjoy getting out in it with my 6 year old daughter. Teaching her to sled, make snowballs and how to roll up a snowman or snowLADY in our case are just too much fun! The best part are the memories she will have. Even though we are located just outside of Nashville we are getting lucky this winter for a change in the snow department. So if you are just LOOKING for some Winter Fun for you and your family?…think about giving me a call and we will plan some SnowDay fun. Portraits not for you - we can always just capture you enjoying time with your family out in the snow fully candid. They make precious little images for your scrapbooking needs.
